Pastoral Valley Organic Eco Farm is in Yaniklar Village near Fethiye and occupies 42,000 sqm. of land in the middle of a valley, surrounded by pine forest, with a river as one of its boundaries. We are committed to organic growing, an ecological lifestyle and offering holidays on our farm where all buildings are ecologically designed, constructed of stone, wood or mud-brick and available to let 12 months of the year Pastoral Valley is a place where you can escape the stress and frustration of high tech city life and return to a natural, calm, unhurried lifestyle indeed “a village life” will be yours during your holiday on the farm...

Whilst staying at Pastoral Valley you will eat traditional, healthy Mediterranean food prepared from locally grown organic ingredients.  All foods not actually grown on our farm are sourced from other local growers who are members of the ‘Organic Growers Association’.  We pride ourselves on the high standards we strive to maintain in the growing of our fruit and vegetables, and the natural tastes you will encounter are one of the highlights of the eco lifestyle at Pastoral Valley...

If our guests wish, they can get involved in work on the farm, or take part in workshops based on local culture and handicrafts like kilim weaving, simple clay pottery making, basket making or producing a range of traditional preserves such as jams and pickles.  At Pastoral Valley we also offer workshops for children where they can make spinning tops, kites, model aeroplanes or try their hand at learning to bake bread or brek.  We offer activities for making things for children of all ages, instead of playing computer games, they can make things which will become memorable souvenirs of their stay…

The cost of staying at Pastoral Valley includes “everything which grows on the farm”.  Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included, as are all snacks between meals, anything you make in workshops or from materials in the kitchen or garden together with all tea, coffee, herb teas – there are no limits on any of these.  If you want carbonated or alcoholic drinks you are welcome to buy them yourself and bring them to the farm.  We say “buy it in the market and pay for it in the market” then you can consume them at the farm.

Your holiday at Pastoral Valley is designed to immerse you in the “beauties of nature”….welcome to our model of pastoral farm life.

Location:

Pastoral Valley is in Yaniklar village which lies on the main Fethiye to Dalaman highway some 40km from Dalaman and 15km from Fethiye.

Accommodation:

We have a maximum capacity for 50 guests in both mud-brick and stone houses, as well as, on the banks of the Kargı River, several wooden cottages – all buildings have been ecologically designed and constructed.

Stone houses: Built in a traditional style using natural materials, ground floor has one bedroom, upper floors have two and they can be used as two separate apartments.  Each floor has a bathroom, a kitchen and a wide terrace.  The ground floors have been adapted to make them suitable for guests with disabilities.

Mud-brick houses: Built from hand-made mud-brick, tile and wood these single-storey houses have two bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen, living room and a wide verandah.  In the summer both the stone and mud-brick houses remain cool, in the winter they are heated with wood-burning cooking stoves.

Wooden houses: These have been built close to the KargıiRiver, where it forms one of Pastoral Valley’s boundaries, and are in the midst of shade-giving trees.  There are one- and two-bedroomed wooden houses with each house also having a bathroom and a small kitchen in one corner of the verandah.

All organic waste from the houses, together with grey and black water, is recycled.  There is no smoking allowed in any of the Pastoral Valley houses…

Food & Baverage

At Pastoral Valley we not only use organic ingredients in our cooking, we also cook organically.  Any food not actually grown on the farm is sourced from other trusted local growers to maintain our commitment to purity and taste.

We offer our guests a range of dishes which include traditional Mediterranean recipes rarely cooked at home these days and certainly not found on restaurant menus.

We bake our own bread in a stone oven, other food is cooked in the tandoor and on a wood-burning stove – all traditional cooking methods.  Food preparation and cooking forms a workshop situation for our guests and, even if you don’t want to actually help peel, chop and then cook, we are still happy to share our recipes and methods with you.

Activities:

All the daily routines on the farm, and the theories and philosophy underlying it, have been organized to take the form of workshops for our guests.  At various times these include:

Agricultural Workshops: Eco agricultural methods and the seasons for sowing/planting, ploughing, harvesting are all discussed during daily routine work in the fields and orchard.  You may also choose to work on the garden in front of the house in which you are staying.

Farm Products Workshops: According to the season you can take part in making pickles, jams, pressing olives for oil or making wine.  You may have even have new ideas you can share with us.

Local Culture Workshops: You can make simple clay pots, weave a kilim, try basic wood carving, weave a basket or learn how to make traditional regional foods.

Arts Workshops: These change on a yearly basis and this season include the ‘Lycian Photography School’ and ‘Yoga’ sessions.

Activities in the Local Environment: The area around the farm is ideal for walking, you can hike on old mine trails and discover canyons; in the summer you can walk to the source of the Kargı River and swim in its icy cold waters, according to the season there are many opportunities for observing flora and fauna, in particular migratory birds and you might also wish to gather medicinal herbs or edible mushrooms – all to be found growing locally in the wild.

Activities at the Seaside: You can swim from the beach at Yonca Lodge our partner in the Pastoral Life Project.  As well as using their beach for swimming and sunbathing, you may also wish to take part in other activities organized by Yonca Lodge such as snorkeling or taking a boat tour around local islands including a visit to a lighthouse.  For details of other places where you can swim in the sea please click here.

Domestic pets: Pastoral Valley welcomes your domestic pets.  They will be housed in secure accommodation with the farm animals.
